Welcome to the official website of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Office of the General Counsel. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of the Los Angeles Unified School District seeks to be nothing less than the best public law office in Los Angeles County. The OGC is an ethical, high performance legal department with high professional standards and integrity that provides first class legal service to the teachers, supervisors and administrators who support the District's 520,000 plus students whom we educate. While we use our skills to advise and counsel schools and administrative offices, we recognize that our ultimate clients are the students of the District and their families, and work to support the District's vision that L.A. Unified will be a progressive global leader in education, providing a dynamic and inspiring learning experience where all students graduate ready for success.

Our mission is to use our specialized experiences, knowledge and skills to support and advance the LAUSD. We provide effective and proactive legal advice and quality representation while creating an ethical environment in support of a high quality learning environment for all students.

Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights - June 2025

The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Office of the General Counsel, Ethics and Compliance Monitoring (ECM) Legal Services Team, has published the June 2025 edition of the “Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights.” This Report highlights the District’s continued efforts during the 2023–2024 school year focused on equity, program accessibility, and provision of a free appropriate public education. It serves as an update to the “Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights” published in May 2024.

The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Office of the General Counsel, Ethics and Compliance Monitoring (ECM) Legal Services Team, published the “Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights” focused on equity, program accessibility, and provision of a free appropriate public education. The Report provides an update to the “Report on Improving Outcomes and Ensuring Rights" published December 2022. It consists of a review of the status of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s efforts during the 2022-2023 school year.
